The perfect fall bucket list for you and yours
Written by Nhatalya Pagtakhan
It’s that time of the year again! In the U.S. (when climate change isn’t messing with our weather), September through November is filled with all the fall vibes. We’re talking pumpkin hot chocolate, knit sweaters, your fave beanie and cozying up on the couch. All are back in, FTW. But what to do when you’re all out of ideas for date night with the girls or with the S/O? Here are six ideas to get you started on that Fall Feelin’:
Go to a farm
I’m not sure about the rest of the U.S., but speaking as a Portlandian, Sauvie Island in North Portland has plenty of farms that cater to many seasonal outdoor activities. Specific to fall, they have corn mazes for the day (and at night, they have a haunted corn maze — make sure to wear your boots). They also have plenty of pumpkin patches and hayrides around the fields, so you’ll be whipped after roaming the farm for the perfect pumpkin (and variants of u-pick squash) to take back home.
“Good soup”
Not sure what to make/eat for dinner? Vietnamese pho or Japanese ramen can warm you and your love(s) up after a walk in the chilly air. Bonus points if you (or they) know how to make either one from scratch.
Fall baking
On the topic of things that are edible, making sweets in the kitchen is an easy way to bond over a task together (ie., practice your communication skills) and be rewarded with a sweet treat at the end of it all. Pie, pumpkin spice cupcakes, molasses cookies ... Watch out for drooling all over your laptop when you open your Pinterest for fall dessert recipes.
Make drinks
You could drive all the way to Starbucks and order Pumpkin Spice Lattes, but why do that when you can make an activity out of mixology from home? We suggest a spiked cider for your weekend evenings. You’ll have to go out and find the ingredients, but once you do, it’s worth it to get into this cozy fall energy by immersing yourself in the drink-making process.
Scenic drive
Have a little extra gas money? Spend it all winding down the roads of your home state. Summer can be a beautiful time in many parts of the country, but it’s just too damn hot sometimes to go out for certain activities. Fall allows you to get outdoors before it’s too cold and get that last bite of Mother Nature while she’s still ripe. You can look up road trips and scenic roads here.
Thrift some flannel
If where you live gets cold (like snow on the ground cold!), socially distanced indoor activities such as thrifting can spark inspiration and preparation for the new season ahead. A cheesy idea if you’re into ways to spice up the shopping: you pick and buy the outfit for your partner/friends, and they get to buy and pick the outfit for you!
